The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a temporary full-time (from approx. October 2, 2017 to approx. October 5, 2018) Plan Checker I to join our team of professionals in the Community Development Division, Permit, Licence and Inspection Services Department.
Reporting to the Manager, Permit, Licence and Inspection Services, you will be responsible in this unionized position for performing regulatory work including checking building applications and plans for single and two family dwellings and small buildings for compliance with bylaws, building codes, development permits and other regulations and when required suggesting changes to ensure compliance. You will also answer enquiries from the public on application procedures, bylaws, building codes and other regulations. The work involves liaising with other regulatory agencies and municipal departments to ensure that requisite permits and approvals have been obtained. You will calculate construction costs and permit fees from prepared schedules of costs, prepare routine correspondence relating to application procedures, municipal requirements and regulations, check building sites to obtain information to assist in processing building applications.
Your education will include Grade 12, with courses in industrial arts and some related experience or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduation from an Institute of technology in Building technology, and or completion of an apprenticeship as a journeyman carpenter will be an asset. Level 1 Certification from the Building Officials Association of BC is desirable plus sound related experience in building construction industry or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You will have the ability to establish priorities and schedule workload to meet deadlines, read and decipher complex building plans, and calculate construction costs and permits fees are essential including computer training and experience.

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $27.75 – 32.63 per hour (2015 rates), plus 12.4% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm.
