Description
The Saanich Fire Department is seeking a Fire Mechanic. This is a skilled position requiring a high degree of mechanical and technical knowledge in the repair and maintenance of Fire Department apparatus and fire fighting equipment. Duties involve specialized mechanical work of a technical nature requiring heavy duty diesel and commercial mechanic skills, including but not limited to; service, maintenance, welding, electrical and fabrication work on a wide variety of Fire Department apparatus, vehicles, and equipment.
Requirements
Requirements include completion of Grade 12 or equivalency certificate supplemented by technical courses related to the mechanical trade; Certification of B.C. or inter-provincial red seal trades qualification in heavy duty or commercial transport mechanics; Certificate of Qualification – Emergency Vehicle Technician; Minimum 3 years’ experience working as a journeyman heavy duty or commercial transport mechanic; Valid Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certificate or inter-provincial (or out of province) equivalency; Valid B.C. Class 3 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement or (or out of province) equivalency.
