Recommends changes and prepares reports for various committees dealing with the installation and modifications to traffic signals, signs and pavement markings.
Develops signal timing plans for the Region’s Advanced Traffic Management System to optimize traffic safety and efficiency.
Maintains databases for traffic collisions and traffic signal information.
Investigates complaints and inquiries received from the public and other agencies pertaining to traffic conditions making recommendations on potential improvements
Knowledge
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a municipal and/or government traffic engineering organization or other similar environment.
- Appropriate cooperative work experience may be considered.
- Must be eligible for certification with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technician and Technologists (OACETT).
- Must be certified or eligible for certification with International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) for Traffic Signals Level I and Level II.
- Understanding of the Ontario Traffic Manuals (Signs, Traffic Signals, Markings, Temporary Conditions, Pedestrian Crossing Facilities and Cycling Facilities.)
Education
- Completion of a 3-year community college program, in Transportation Engineering
Skills
• Must possess working knowledge of computer system skills (AutoCAD, Arc View) and database management.
- Additional training in geometric highway design and traffic engineering principles and practices is an asset.
- Proficiency with Synchro/Sim Traffic Software for developing timing plans for traffic signal networks.
- Familiarity with Centracs Advance Transportation Management System
Special Requirements
- Must possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted class "G" license for the class of the vehicle operated
Please note the hourly rate in this posting is made up of $28.67 - $30.35, plus an additional 'market adjustment' of $3.09/hour above the posted rates as per the Collective Agreement.
