This is an opportunity to act both as Deputy Town Clerk, responsible for executing statutory responsibilities as prescribed under the Municipal Act, 2001, and as a leader in the Legislative Services department. Under the direction of the Director, Legislative Services, the Deputy Town Clerk will directly manage the Clerk’s business unit, provide leadership to municipal law enforcement and licensing; and act as the Director of Legislative Services in his/her absence.

 

Results oriented, politically savvy and experienced in administration, you will assist with strategies, policies and directions and implement actions to achieve business objectives. A champion of innovation, you will ensure the legislative services’ goals and objectives, long-range plans, services and programs align closely to community needs. 

Requirements

Your credentials for the position of Deputy Town Clerk are summarized as follows:

 

  • Post-secondary degree in Public Administration, Municipal Administration, Political Science, Business Administration or a related discipline combined with progressive experience in a managing role in municipal government including council secretariat functions, records management, insurance and municipal elections, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Full member of the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO) required
  • Class “G” Driver’s License and a reliable vehicle to use on corporate business
  • Due to the responsibilities of this position, a Police Information Check satisfactory to the Town is required
  • Ability to work additional hours as required and flexibility to attend evening meetings.

 

In addition, you will have the following knowledge and core competencies:

  • Thorough knowledge of municipal and applicable provincial legislation
  • Excellent report writing, communication, analytical, problem-solving, organizational, time management and leadership skills
  • Advanced public relations skills, interpersonal effectiveness; ability to deal effectively and tactfully with all levels of staff, government and public
  • Acts strategically, focuses on results, leads effectively and develops others

Salary & Benefits

Salary Range:  $91,752 to $114,689
