NOTICE OF VACANCY

WASTE REDUCTION CO-ORDINATOR

Environmental Services Department

 

Under the general guidance and direction of the Manager of Environmental Operations, the Waste Reduction Coordinator position oversees the administration of the City of Barrie’s waste services collection contract and the development, implementation and delivery of the City’s waste reduction/diversion programs. Specifically, this position coordinates the day-to-day tasks associated with the execution of the City’s waste services collection contract. Additionally, this position develops, implements, monitors and modifies waste diversion programs including developing associated community outreach, promotion and education programs. Lastly, this position resolves contract issues and customer service concerns. Overall, this position plays an integral role in ensuring the effective and efficient collection of the City’s waste through contracted services and minimizing the disposal of the City’s solid waste.

Requirements

Applicants must have:                                                                                          

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)

  • Three (3) year College Diploma in Environmental Technology, Public Relations or related discipline.   A Four (4) year University Degree in Environmental Resource Management, Environmental Engineering, Public Relations, or related discipline is preferred.
  • Courses from the Stewardship Ontario Organization, including: Fundamental Principles in Recycling Planning; Promotion and Education; Contract Management; Data Management are preferred.
  • Courses from the Solid Waste Association of North America: Managing Integrated Solid Waste Management Systems; Household Waste & CESQG Collection Operations; Managing of Construction and Demolition Materials; Managing Composting Programs are preferred.
  • Courses from an accredited association, organization and/or institution in the following disciplines: Customer Service; Dealing with Difficult Customers; Accounting are preferred.    
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence in good standing

 

Experience

  • Three (3) years of experience (four years of experience is preferred) working with integrated solid waste management systems or municipal waste reduction/diversion programs.
  • Demonstrated experience with Waste Diversion Ontario Datacall completion/submission and related audits is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting waste audits, analyzing/evaluating data and reporting on findings is preferred.

 

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • General knowledge and understanding of provincial laws governing waste management, health and safety, municipal waste and municipal code by-laws, and development and site plan agreement processes
  • Working knowledge of waste diversion programs including compliance, material handling, performance management, safety and reporting/ funding requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to administer waste management related service delivery contracts and/or agreements, mediate differences with positive outcomes and establish effective partnerships for successful execution of contract requirements
  • Computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project, Visio), Internet, vehicle GPS tracking software, GIS mapping and waste management tracking software and standard AV equipment, waste management and/or landfill scale house software

 

Salary & Benefits

The 2016 salary range is $58,640.40 to $70,252 per year ($32.22 to $38.60/hr).  The hours of work will be 35 hours/week. For full details regarding this position, please visit our website at www.barrie.ca.
