OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a visionary and dynamic individual to be our Director of Human Resources. As the Director you will support our organization’s culture and success by leading our people-oriented programs, initiatives and services. You are the steward of all talent and culture solutions and your strategic direction will ensure the efficient, professional and coordinated delivery of our human resources services. You will provide advice and counsel to City Leadership in the HR functional areas and business planning, facilitating change and continuous improvement.

This is a key leadership position, reporting to the General Manager of Corporate Strategic Services, that has overall responsibility for a team of 16 HR staff members who support 800 – 1000 employees. As Director, you will have an interest and desire to build the HR team into a valued strategic business partner, providing a high level of customer service.

The ideal candidate applies their thorough knowledge of HR functions, sound judgment, and solid grasp of financial matters to develop creative talent management strategies that help the City achieve its business goals. You are able to champion HR initiatives across the organization and create strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You are a high impact leader and ambassador with proven experience leading the HR practice within a complex organization. Your strong interpersonal and communication skills, combined with your ability to influence, will enable you to build trusted relationships with your team and at all levels throughout the organization.

HOURS OF WORK

This position works 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 8:00 – 5:00) and receives 1 Earned Day Off per month.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

An undergraduate degree in a related field. Considerable related experience combined with education may be considered as equivalent.

Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation.

A minimum of 10 years of experience, at least 5 in management, with knowledge and experience in organizational planning/effectiveness/development, compensation, employment law, labour relations, training & development, attraction, engagement, retention and transition.

Strong communication and analytical skills are essential, as is the ability to build relationships and engage with individuals.

Strong leadership skills, including the ability to provide staff with vision and motivational direction in obtaining clearly defined goals.

Strong business acumen with excellent planning and financial management skills.

Fully conversant in the use of Microsoft Office applications.


The successful applicant will be required to obtain a satisfactory police information check.

Salary & Benefits

COMPENSATION

$125,497 – $152,688 per annum. In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a comprehensive benefit package including a defined benefit pension plan.
