The Office of the City Solicitor is seeking an experienced Law Clerk to support and provide legal and litigation assistance and administrative support services to Legal Counsel.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal support to Legal Counsel and the Senior Law Clerk, including preparation of legal and litigation materials, coordinating schedules, meetings, hearings and proceedings related to Planning and Ontario Municipal Board appeals. Prioritizes and ensures deadlines are met through coordination of work responsibilities with Legal Counsel.
Qualifications and experience: Community College Diploma in Law Administration or Law Clerk, or suitable equivalent. Eligible or full member of The Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario. Minimum of three years' experience preferably in a legal environment. Proficient computer skills, knowledgeable of software packages including word processing and spreadsheet applications. Working knowledge of legal and litigation documentation. Experience dealing with Planning and Ontario Municipal Board files considered an asset. Strong organizational, time management and communication skills. Must possess the ability to deal effectively and courteously with City staff and the public. Strong oral and written communication, analytical and organization skills. Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in the City’s core competencies and relevant functional competencies. Ability to work outside normal business hours as required.
