Building Standards Department for an experienced and motivated individual
JUNIOR ZONING/PLANS EXAMINER
(FILE #16-2550-GL)

Responsible for:
Examining plans and other documentation submitted for minor building permits and sign permits to ensure compliance with zoning by-laws, agreements and other applicable law. Providing interpretation and information on zoning by-laws and the status of building permits. Providing the departments clearance for licensing matters. Responding to enquiries from the public, legal profession, staff and others concerning clearance of title restrictions, compliance with zoning by-laws, city agreements, building code matters and other applicable law. Liaising and corresponding with applicants regarding procedures, status, etc.
Qualifications and experience:

A.M.C.T.O. Designation or Community College Diploma in Civil Technology, Architectural Technology or suitable equivalent and qualified to the requirements of the Ontario Building Code Act

Minimum three (3) years related municipal experience

Working knowledge of municipal zoning by-law processes and other related statutes, and regulations including the Ontario Building Code

Ability to read and understand surveys/reference plans, architectural/site plans and other associated legal documentation

Excellent analytical, communication and problem solving skills along with the ability to deal effectively, objectively and courteously with the public

Proficient keyboarding, records management skills, and a thorough working knowledge of database and work processing software applications

Hold a valid class “G” driver’s licence and provide a vehicle for use on City business when required.
