Deputy Fire Chief;
Manager of Operations and Training
BARRIE FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICE
Under administrative direction, the Deputy directs, manages, supervises, and coordinates the activities and operations of the Operations and Training Branches with Barrie Fire and Emergency Service including fire suppression, tiered medical, technical rescues, training and related services and activities to ensure the safety of people, property conservation, protect the environment and responders in the event of fire and other emergency events. The Deputy Chief coordinates assigned activities with other branches, departments and outside agencies; and provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Director of Emergency Services (Fire Chief of Barrie Fire and Emergency Service).

Key Qualifications:
- Post-secondary college diploma or university degree in fire service administration or a closely related field
- Occupational Health and Safety Certification, Level I and II, is an asset.
- A certificate or willingness to achieve a certificate as a Community Emergency Management Coordinator through the OFMEM.
- Minimum of a valid Ontario class G driver’s license in good standing.
- Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible fire service experience with at least 6 years’ experience at the officer rank.
- Proven management experience that includes the leadership of others in a unionized environment.
- Experience in the organization, preparation, implementation and delivery of fire related courses and programs.
- Labour Relations training or experience.
- Previous budget management is preferred.
- Proven ability to provide effective command over fire fighting personnel and a thorough understanding of the incident management system and chain of command principles obtained through training and experience.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of fire services and the requirements of the Fire Protection and Prevention Act.
- Superior leadership, organizational, interpersonal relations, oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with elected and non-elected officials and staff at all levels.
- Computer literacy utilizing the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
