Building Standards Department for an experienced and motivated individual
MECHANICAL INSPECTOR
(FILE #15-2372-GL) - REPOSTED

Responsible for:
Conducting site inspections of all building types, structures and uses to ensure compliance with the approved permit documents, plans and specifications; Ontario’s Building Code as amended and referenced standards/documents and related legislation pertaining to mechanical building systems and services.

University degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or a discipline pertinent to position requirements, or suitable equivalent.

Successful completion of the provincial mandated examination program administered and authorized by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, in accordance with the Building Code Act and the building code in the categories of qualifications set out in Building Code as follows:General Legal/Process or Powers and Duties of Chief Building Officials; Building Services; and Fire Protection.

Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) Certification for all building types.

Extensive knowledge of HVAC systems and designs with a minimum five (5) years related experience, ten (10) years preferred in installation and design of mechanical building systems and services for all types of buildings and uses.

Working knowledge of applicable Codes and Regulations and technical aspects of fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems and standpipe and hose systems.

Well-developed knowledge of building construction practices and materials technologies.

Ability to review construction plans and mechanical systems and services specifications to establish compliance with Ontario’s building code as amended, municipal regulations and applicable standards.

Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills with a demonstrated ability to deal professionally with a diverse public, City staff, members of Council, and the ability to give evidence in court.

Excellent organizational skills and the ability to coordinate and prioritize inspection functions to achieve efficient and effective time management.

Excellent written communication skills with the ability to prepare concise, detailed and accurate reports, and correspondence.

Knowledge and application of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations relevant to building construction.

Able to work independently and as part of a team.

Possesses a current, valid, Ontario Class G driver’s licence, in good standing with access to a vehicle for corporate business purposes.

Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in the City’s core competencies.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and additional related software products.

Knowledge of and experience working with AMANDA database considered an asset.
-
Ability to work outside normal business hours, as required and in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
