The Legal Services Department is seeking an experienced Paralegal/Prosecutor to provide prosecution and coordination services to all departments, including, pre-court document preparation, preparation of status report on files handled, delivering training programs with staff and witnesses on evidence, presenting and testifying in court. As Paralegal/Prosecutor you will attend Small Claims Court, Provincial Offences Court and Administrative Monetary Penalty Hearings.
Reporting to Legal Counsel, you will provide a broad range of Paralegal/Prosecution services, including drafting Small Claims Court documents, preparation of witnesses and attendance for trials, review all case files from various departments for adherence to related legislation, evidence and witness statements, and completion of all required documentation. Prepares and reviews Witness Summons, Search Warrants, and Part III Information under the Provincial Offences Act and appear before a Justice of the Peace as required.
You must be a member in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada as a Paralegal, be eligible for Membership in the Prosecution Association of Ontario, and have a minimum of 5 years’ municipal experience including 3 years’ experience related to the preparation of court documents and witnesses, and attendance at Small Claims Court. You possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as good advocacy, organizational, investigative skills, accompanied with the ability to deal professionally and effective with the public, staff and members of the Court. You must possess a valid Ontario Class “G” license in good standing.
