NOTICE OF VACANCY

 

MAINTENANCE OPERATOR CLASS III – ELECTRICAL - WwTF

Temporary – 1 Year Approximately

 

The Maintenance Operator III – Electrical - WwTF position inspects, tests, evaluates, repairs, performs preventative maintenance on, rebuilds and installs electrical equipment/components and instrumentation related to wastewater treatment and collection, co-generation, industrial control systems, and biosolids treatment, handling and air emissions.  Equipment includes pumps, drives, conveyors, compressors, mixers, generators, SCADA system components, programmable logic controllers, single loop controllers, variable frequency human interface modules, human machine interfaces, operating interface terminals, transformer substation and switchgears, heat exchangers, boilers, co-generation equipment, solids and liquid handling equipment, filtration and ultraviolet disinfection equipment; rotating biological contactors, high purity oxygen systems, refrigeration equipment and natural/biogas equipment.  The position also completes detailed logs and records of work in accordance with regulatory requirements, assists with writing SOPs, and provides back-up support and acts in the absence of the Lead Hand – Electrical & Mechanical.  In addition, the MOP III – Electrical acts as a WW Operator, monitoring treatment and collection processes and conducting sampling as assigned.

 

The purpose of the position is to ensure electrical systems for WW facilities and equipment are functioning properly and maintained in accordance with legislative/regulatory requirements and manufacturers warranties and/or design standards.  This in turn allows continuous operation of WW plant/equipment/systems in keeping with community health needs and sound asset and risk management practices.

Requirements

Applicants must have (under review):                                                                   

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)

  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma
  • Certificate of Qualification as a Construction Maintenance Electrician (this requires 9000 hours of related training and work experience under the Trades Qualification and Apprenticeship Act)
  • Construction Maintenance Electrician License
  • MOECC Class II Operator License in Wastewater Treatment and a Class I Operator License in Wastewater Collection; accompanied by willingness and ability to obtain higher levels of MOECC Wastewater Operator Certification aligned with City Wastewater infrastructure/plant classifications.
  • Industrial Maintenance Technician Certification or willingness to complete within one year (IMT training is site specific for the Barrie Wastewater Treatment Facility (WwTF) in order to perform maintenance to the gas systems as defined in Ontario Regulation 215/01 Fuel Industry Certificates) or be in possession of a G1 or G2 Gas Technician Certificate.
  • Valid Class D Driver’s License with “Z” endorsement, in good standing.

 

Experience

  • 3 years of experience (beyond apprenticeship) as an electrician in a wastewater treatment plant, in a large industrial complex, or on large construction project(s).

 

Required Training:

  • Confined Space Entry Certificate  -Wastewater Operations/Maintenance staff are required to wear a respirator to enter confined spaces and as such, must be clean-shaven and medically fit to wear a respirator at all times

 

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

  • Ability to read and understand detailed technical drawings (i.e. Blueprints, shop drawings) and an understanding of Control logic.
  • Thorough working knowledge of Ontario and Canadian Electrical codes and Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) requirements.
  • Knowledge of health and safety protocols and safe work procedures related to sewage infrastructure (bio-hazards.)
  • Ability to wear self contained breathing apparatus.  Medical documentation to confirm medically fit to wear a respirator
  • Proficiency in the use of MSOffice Suite software, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook), plus ESA continuous safety software.  Familiarity with IMS systems (CityWorks, Hansen, Megamation, etc.)
  • Knowledge of SCADA system components and other instrumentation such as programmable logic controllers, variable frequency drives, flow meters, radar/ultra-sound devices.
  • Completion of confined space entry / rescue / trench / forklift operation / CPR / First Aid / high-purity oxygen safety / overhead crane operation / Book 7 / lockout tagout / propane-handling - or willingness to complete.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, teamwork, initiative/self-management, time/project management, recordkeeping, and flexibility/adaptability skills
  • Availability for overtime and standby responsibilities and ability to respond to after-hours operational, maintenance and emergency issues as required.
  • Availability and willingness to work a rotating shift schedule which may involve an afternoon/night shift, a 12 hour day/night shift or could be required to work other shift rotations as scheduled to cover part of a 24 hour 7 days per week shift rotation.
Salary & Benefits

The 2014 pay range is (under review) $64,667 to $77,500/year ($31.09/hr to $37.26/hr), 40 hours per week, may involve rotating shifts.   For full details regarding this position, please visit our website at www.barrie.ca.
