The City of Edmonton is looking for up to six sharp and detail-oriented individuals to join Sustainable Development as Development Services Technicians.  This position has a strong customer service component as you'll be the first point of contact for clients seeking various services. Outside of providing advice and answering questions, you'll do everything from reviewing/approving minor developments and reviewing plans for compliance with building safety codes to issuing building permits on minor developments, and even providing zoning approvals for business licences on routine applications.  Each day is a little different in this dynamic position so we're looking for someone that's highly organized and a strong communicator.  If all this looks like something you want to "develop" into, then apply today to become a Development Services Technician!

Some of the responsibilities of a Development Services Technician include:

  • Providing first level of technical subject matter expertise to "walk in"  and “phone in” customers

  • Reviewing applications for completeness and related technical documentation/plans related to the services being sought

  • Ensuring applications are in compliance with various Acts and Bylaws

  • Advising the client of any necessary referral processes or approvals that will be required prior to issuance of a licence

  • Reviewing and researching zoning issues related to various licences

  • Consulting and advising clients when applications are "not approved" of the specifics and what additional requirements are needed in order to be "approved"

  • Educating clients on services, providing materials or reference information, and ensuring clients understand what is required to fulfill their request

  • Accessing, creating, updating, or correcting account information in the POSSE system for client services

  • Investigating and following-up on the status of development/building applications in response to client inquiries
