The Director, Water and Wastewater Services is accountable for general management and leadership in the engineering, operation, maintenance, compliance and delivery of water and wastewater services for the Region. This leadership role ensures that divisional programs and services are able to respond to the strategic priorities, objectives, and initiatives of the Region ultimately adding value to the residents, visitors and business of Niagara Region. The Director enables the team to be leaders in delivering compliant, sustainable, effective and affordable water and wastewater services by fostering innovation, teamwork, high levels of customer service and accountability. Ensures the mandated delivery of water supply and wastewater treatment meets all federal, provincial and municipal requirements, including health and safety.

The Director builds internal and external networks, effective teams, alliances and partnerships that enhance the operational, financial and people effectiveness of the division, department and the corporation, by seeking to understand the interests of multiple stakeholders.

As a member of the Public Works Management Team, the Director contributes to and participates in the general management of the department and the corporation including the development and implementation of departmental and corporate wide strategies, structures, systems and policies.

Requirements

Education

• A university degree in Applied Sciences or Engineering and Certification as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) is required.
• Administrative/Management certificate, diploma or degree.

Experience

• 10 to 15 years’ experience in engineering, operation and maintenance of water and wastewater facilities and systems of which at least 5 years are at senior management level.
• Proven success implementing and managing multi-year operating and capital budgets in support of Council objectives
• Experience managing and developing management staff; and managing teams in a unionized environment
• Experience building internal and external alliances and partnership
• Experience in leading change to enable innovation, quality and efficiency
• Extensive knowledge of the regulatory environment in water and wastewater treatment, collection and distribution

• Strong leadership skills, proven ability to lead and develop individuals and teams towards a common purpose
• Strategic thinking and demonstrated experience shaping and implementing divisional and departmental vision, mission and strategies as well as corporate strategies
• Proven ability to set divisional work plans, prioritize the work of self and a large team, resolve problems, make decisions and deliver projects and key deliverables on time, with quality
• Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills

Special Requirements

• In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate.
• It is the employee’s responsibility to possess and maintain a valid and restriction free driver’s license of appropriate class to carry out the duties of the job.

Salary & Benefits

$127,500.00 - $150,000.00
