The Edmonton Assessment Review Board (ARB) is a quasi-judicial tribunal that hears all complaints relating to property assessments in Edmonton. ARB is governed by the Municipal Government Act, the legislative framework in which all municipalities and municipal entities across the Province of Alberta operate. The ARB is looking for a Board Officer recognized for their strong communication skills, sound working knowledge of administrative law and the ability to facilitate decision-making in a quasi-judicial environment. Join a team of highly dedicated professionals who ensure decisions are easy to understand, legally enforceable and rendered in a timely manner. 

 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing governance advice to the Board
  • Ensuring the Board makes legally enforceable, understandable, and timely decisions
  • Planning, developing and implementing professional development programs for Board members
  • Working with the Supervisor of ARB to coordinate the daily operations of the Board
  • Researching, developing and making recommendations to the Director of Tribunals relating to strategic planning for the ARB including legislative changes, bylaws, policies and procedures, guidelines and administrative/board manuals
  • Ensuring relevant legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines are complied with

Requirements
  • University degree in Law, Business Administration, Arts, Political Science or related. 
  • Minimum of 4 years progressively responsible and diversified experience in operational research and policy development in either quasi-judicial environments or regulatory frameworks
  • Demonstrated time management skills and ability to set priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret legislation 
  • Demonstrated facilitation skills toward good governance practices and decision rendering process in a quasi-judicial environment
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Sound working knowledge of administrative law and the principles of natural justice practices
  • Experience in working with decision-making teams
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently under legislative time constraints
Salary & Benefits

Salary Range: 21M, Salary Grade: 030, $40.319 - $50.946 (Hourly), $71,032.00 - $89,754.12 (Annually).  The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton. This union is currently under negotiation
