Reporting to the Chief Building Official, the Building Inspector will review and comment on building plans, process building, plumbing and on-site septic permit applications, respond to questions from the public and builders on Building Code matters and conduct site inspections for compliance. The Building Inspector is also responsible for the enforcement of the Property Standards, and other City By-laws.
The ideal candidate will have a three (3) year post-secondary diploma in building sciences, engineering technology or architectural technology and at least five years of demonstrated success in building code inspection. The applicant should have knowledge of the Ontario Building Code Act and be certified by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing in Building Services, House, HVAC House, Small Buildings, Large Buildings, Complex Buildings, Building Structural, Plumbing House, "On-site Sewage", Plumbing All Buildings, Fire Protection and Legal-General. Training in Property Standards By-law enforcement will be an asset.
The successful candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, have superior oral, written and interpersonal skills; and be able to act professionally while providing service to the public. A valid driver’s license and access to own motor vehicle are necessary. Computer application knowledge and skills in word processing and spreadsheet programs is required. Knowledge and training in the use of GIS (preferably ARCVIEW) and "Permit Tracking” (preferably CityView) software would be an asset.
Remuneration: CUPE Salary Grid $31.05/hr. (35 hrs. /wk.) The City offers an attractive benefits package. The job description is currently under review.
