Presenter
Collin Castle, P.E., Connected Vehicle Specialist, MDOT
Collin has worked in the MDOT Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Program Office for the past 10 years. In his current role, he focuses on connected vehicle Infrastructure design and deployment, and data use for agency applications. This includes the analysis of the impacts of connected vehicle infrastructure and applications on safety, mobility and the environment. Collin manages a number of MDOT initiatives including the Truck Parking Information and Management System; the Data Use Analysis and Processing Project; the Vehicle Based Information Data Acquisition System, and the Weather Responsive Traveler Information System.
Collin orchestrates research efforts related to automated vehicles and their potential impact on a road operating agency. He is involved in research/testing efforts by multiple universities and consultants on the needs of automated vehicles from a traditional transportation infrastructure and technology perspective.
Collin has served in a stakeholder/advisory capacity on key initiatives including the Federal Highway Administration Weather Data Environment, and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Connected Vehicle Footprint Analysis. He helped implement the 2014 ITS World Congress in Detroit; the Traffic Management Center of the future; the Belle Isle Technology Demonstrations, and the Transportation Application Development Challenge. Collin is a recipient of the State of Michigan 2014 Good Government Symbol of Excellence and Leadership Coin for leading the development of innovations in ITS and connected vehicle research.
