KAMLOOPS
Kamloops Transit Receives International Award Recognition

January 23, 2026

Four times a year, the Transit App invites riders across Canada and the United States to grade public transit in their community and this time, Kamloops stood out in a big way.

The city has earned the Most Improved Award in the Superlative Stops category of the app's 2025 Riders Choice Awards, a recognition driven directly by rider feedback. This means Kamloops riders were most likely to say their stop provided a comfortable place to wait a clear sign that recent investments are paying off where it matters most, the everyday rider experience.

This recognition reflects the significant effort that BC Transit and the City of Kamloops have put into strengthening public transit in the Kamloops community. Improvements to service reliability, customer experience, and bus stop amenities make a meaningful difference in residents' daily lives and help advance City Council's broader goals related to safety and security, service excellence, and livability and sustainability.

Over the past five years, the City's Transportation team has worked hard to enhance rider comfort and accessibility across the Kamloops Transit System. Central to this effort is the Transit Shelter Program, an initiative that has focused on thoughtful planning, timely delivery, and high-quality construction of transit stops. Prior to the program's launch, only 5% of transit stops in Kamloops had shelters.

Through this initiative, the team has successfully narrowed the gap toward the national average shelter coverage of 21%. To date, 42 new transit shelters have been installed, with an additional 39 planned over the next two years.

Once complete, the program will have delivered 81 new transit shelters, bringing the system-wide total to 109.
