Municipal leaders in Prince Edward Island now have access to counselling resources to help them manage the mental and emotional challenges of public service.
Municipal Leaders Talk offers free and confidential counselling services to mayors, councillors, and chief administrative officers. Funded by the Government of Prince Edward Island, the program provides support for a wide range of issues including stress, anxiety, substance use, bereavement, depression, family conflict, and financial difficulties. Services are delivered by trained professionals who can also provide referrals when needed.
"We recognize that the demands of public service can take a toll on mental health, and we want to ensure that support is available when it's needed most. By investing in the well-being of our local leaders, we're not only strengthening municipal governance we're also encouraging a culture of care, resilience, and leadership across the province."
Minister of Housing, Land and Communities, Cory Deagle
"Mayors, councillors, and CAOs across the country are feeling the strain of increasingly complex issues, rising public expectations, and, too often, instances of conflict or harassment. The Federation is pleased to see the province's commitment to the Municipal Leaders Talk Program. This dedicated counselling service will help strengthen the well-being and promote the retention of Prince Edward Island's municipal leaders, who work every day to serve their communities."
Bruce MacDougall, president of the Federation of Prince Edward Island Municipalities
