Alberta Municipalities (ABmunis), an association that advocates for 265 municipalities across Alberta to the provincial and federal governments, recently received a national award for its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and practices.
Canadian HR Reporter magazine bestowed a 5-Star Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Employers award on the association in August 2024.
"It's wonderful to be recognized for our ongoing efforts to create a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace," said CEO Dan Rude. "Our association's culture reflects our members' values and what they strive to accomplish in their communities."
Many of ABmunis' employees got involved in the selection process by completing anonymous employee satisfaction surveys which were then evaluated by the award committee. Organizations that achieved an average employee satisfaction score of 80 per cent or more were named 5-star Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Employers for 2024.
"The work our Diversity, Inclusion, Belonging and Reconciliation Committee did over the last 18 months has been exceptional," said Jeff Simpson, Senior Director of Human Resources. "We are committed to making our workplace as welcoming, supportive and collegial as possible. Through our efforts, we're improving employee retention, contributing to greater job satisfaction and achieving better performance," said Simpson.
Alberta Municipalities was one of 15 Canadian organizations in the 100-to-499 employee category to be recognized with a 5-Star Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Employers of 2024 award.
