Do you have a passion for working outdoors? Do you want to gain practical, hands-on experience? The District of Saanich, the largest municipality on Vancouver Island, has a diverse parks system with over 170 parks and natural areas and over 100 kms of trails. The Parks Division is seeking a Student Parks Technician to perform a variety of operational tasks to support the Natural Areas and Community Stewardship Sections of Saanich Parks and assist in a variety of parks operations planning projects by performing fieldwork, research, and supporting community stewardship and public engagement events.

The successful candidate will work a 35-hour week, generally Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with occasional evening or weekend work depending on operational needs.

Requirements

Requirements include: one year of post-secondary education; enrollment in a full-time post-secondary education program is mandatory; preference will be given to those enrolled in a parks-related field such as Geography, Resource Management, or Outdoor Recreation, etc. at a University or Technical Institution; one month previous work experience; and a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Salary & Benefits

This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $31.22 per hour plus 15% in place of benefits (equivalent to $35.90 per hour).
