The Child & Youth Programming team is currently seeking ice instructors for classes such as skating lessons, shinny and power skating; as well as general sport instructors for sports such as badminton, volleyball and basketball. Successful instructors will be added to our contact list and fill vacant evening and weekend positions for the Winter 2025 session. Once an instructor is added to our contact list they will be notified of all future instructing opportunities throughout the year.
As a Child & Youth Programs Instructor, you will have the following:
Responsibilities:
- Deliver high quality recreational classes for up to 20 participants in a safe and positive environment
- Develop and implement creative, age-appropriate lesson plans with progressions and adaptations based on skill level and abilities
- Incorporate physical literacy and fundamental movement skills into weekly classes
- Interact with parents, handle all forms and paperwork and ensure overall participant safety
- Collaborate and positively interact with the Child & Youth Programming Team
- Equipment management including pick up/drop off, setup/takedown of program area and equipment safety assessments
Qualifications and Skills
- Positive, proven leadership and team-building skills
- Proven ability to maintain high standards of safety, quality and cooperation
- Proven time management skills and possess the ability to work with minimal supervision
- Outstanding customer service and communication skills
- Ability to adapt to changing work environments and demands
- Completion or enrollment of a post-secondary education in recreation, physical education, kinesiology or related degree is preferred
- Sport specific coaching and/or instructing experience is highly desired
- Experience working with children ages 3 years to 15 years
- High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development is an asset (must obtain within 6 months of signing first contract)
- National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) is an asset
Conditions of Employment
