Description
The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Mechanic – Emergency Vehicle Technician. Under the general direction of the Manager, Fleet Operations, the incumbent performs major overhauls, minor repairs, and welding to City of Nanaimo equipment. The Mechanic repairs or overhauls engine and power train component parts, carries out road tests, performs preventative maintenance inspections, services the various vehicles and equipment, writes repair orders, and prepares parts order requests.

Requirements

Applicants must have completion of Grade 12 or equivalent and a minimum of 2 years’ related experience. Applicants must hold:

  • A valid BC Trade Qualification or inter-provincial Heavy Duty, Commercial Transport or Automotive Mechanics.
  • A valid BC Provincial Commercial Vehicle Inspectors Certificate.
  • A valid Fire Apparatus Technician – Master Level III Certification.
  • A valid Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence with Air Endorsement.
Salary & Benefits

This is a unionized position.  $48.84 per hour - after Probation (Jan 2024 Rate), based on a 40-hour work week. Shortlisted applicants may be required to undergo a criminal record check and/or a verification of their education credentials.
