Description
The City of Nanaimo is seeking two permanent full-time Natural Area Technicians. Under the general direction of the Manager, Park Operations, the incumbent is responsible for planning, undertaking and assigning maintenance and assessment work within the City’s natural area parks along with developed parks and streetscapes.

Requirements

Applicants must have the following qualifications:

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural ResourceManagement or related discipline from a recognized technical instituteor equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year related environmental, biodiversity, natural resourceor conservation planning/management experience.
  • International Society of Arboriculture (I.S.A.) Certified Arborist.
  • Certified Tree Risk Assessor certification.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.
  • Possession of a valid BC Pesticide Applicator’s certificate.
Salary & Benefits

This is a CUPE bargaining unit position based on a 40-hour work week. The hourly wage is $40.91, increasing to $43.06 upon successful completion of probation (Jan 2024 Rates). The wage level for this position is subject to confirmation under a union/management jointly negotiated job evaluation plan.
