About You / What We Are Looking For 

We are seeking a meticulous and proactive individual to join our Planning and Development Department as a Construction Site Liaison.  This position entails technical, regulatory, and public relations responsibilities related to the development, construction, and demolition activities conducted on private property.  The ideal candidate will ensure that construction sites are operated and maintained in accordance with applicable bylaws, legislation, regulations, and construction management plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct site visits to ensure compliance with bylaws, legislation, and regulations.
  • Liaise with bylaw enforcement and other stakeholders.
  • Recommend enhancements to bylaws and policies.
  • Prepare communication materials and schedules.
  • Exercise discretion and tact in handling claims, complaints, and inquiries.
  • Implement communication strategies for various stakeholders.
  • Review construction management plans for compliance.
  • Develop templates, procedures, and guidelines to encourage compliance.
  • Coordinate with municipal staff to address construction impacts.
  • Respond to complaints and concerns related to construction sites.
  • Identify opportunities to improve bylaws and policies.
  • Prepare materials and presentations for Council and media.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a diploma program in construction management, project management, building technology or public administration plus some related experience, preferably in bylaw enforcement and/or public relations; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge of bylaws, legislation, and regulations related to construction.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently with considerable discretion.
  • Experience in public relations or community engagement preferred.
  • Familiarity with documentation and records management practices.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License.

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $40.73 - $48.08. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.

Additionally, there is an opportunity to participate in an earned day off program.  The City offers an attractive vacation and extended benefits package, including the ability to contribute to the Municipal Pension Plan.
