Start Date:
November 1, 2017
End Date:

Description
With local governments influencing over 55% of greenhouse gas emissions in BC, locally elected officials and senior municipal staff need the practical skills and knowledge to lead their communities into a green future. The BC Municipal Climate Leadership Council is hosting the Climate Leadership Institute from November 1-3, 2017 at the Hilton Vancouver Airport in Richmond, BC.

CLI will focus on three main themes:

  • Communication: Learn ways to effectively communicate the importance of acting on climate change and build support with your stakeholders.
  • Organizational Alignment: Discover best practices and policy tools to use to ensure a climate action lens is incorporated in every decision your community makes over the long term.
  • Knowledge sharing: Hear about successful solutions and innovative ideas in reducing GHG emissions and energy use in other communities and learn how to adapt them to your own community.

Featured keynote speakers include:

  • Richard Walton, Mayor, District of North Vancouver
  • Travis Streb, Western Canada Director, Humphrey Group
  • Mike Harcourt, Former Premier of BC and current Chair of QUEST
  • Cara Pike, Principal, Social Capital Strategies
  • Merran Smith, Executive Director, Clean Energy Canada

Our keynote speakers, peer panels and dialogue sessions will offer something for everyone. Discussion groups for small and large communities ensure that participants gain insights that are relevant to their experiences.

*Elected officials earn 3 credit hours toward any level of LGLA Certification. While this event is tailored to elected officials, municipal staff involved in climate change planning are welcome to attend.*
