Description
The Saanich Fire Department is seeking a Fire Dispatch Communications Officer who will be responsible for operational oversight of the Districts Regional Fire Dispatch and Communications Centre.  This is a specialized position requiring considerable knowledge, skill and ability specific to the field of Emergency Communications and is integral to the Department’s fire dispatch and emergency communications business strategy and service delivery. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of Fire Services communication and dispatch operations, including but not limited to; information technology, radio, and dispatch systems infrastructure and equipment, computer aided dispatch and records management systems, operational service delivery requirements and related industry standards and best practices.

Requirements

Requirements include completion of Grade 12 or equivalent; possession of a valid B.C. Driver’s License; NFPA 1021 Fire Officer III certification or equivalent; Incident Command Level 300, an educational path including courses and/or certificates in the field of Public Safety Telecommunications or equivalent combinations of education and experience and ability to work on call as required.  The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated computer competency in related business and office suite software programs; competence with data analysis to provide and support business intelligence; business writing competency including briefings, memorandums and reports.

Candidates will be selected based on qualifications, knowledge, skill and ability applicable to the delivery of Fire Dispatch services. Candidates are expected to have supplemented their professional development with additional courses/curriculum. Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
