Description
The City of Fernie is inviting applications for the casual position of Bylaw Enforcement Officer, to fill a void resulting from a temporary vacancy.  The term of this position is dependent upon the date of the return of the regular employee, but is expected to be more than 4 weeks in duration.  It is anticipated that this will be a part-time position on an as needed basis, to a maximum of 35 hours per week. Subject to mutual agreement the Bylaw Enforcement Officer maybe required to work irregular hours and schedules because of the nature of the duties of the position.  Start date for this position is anticipated approximately early to mid June.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Drivers License
  • High School Diploma supplemented with Level One Bylaw Enforcement and Investigating Skills Course or equivalent
  • Preferred 3-5 years prior job related experience in a local Government setting and a minimum two years experience in enforcement work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

ABILITIES

  • Ability to deal with confrontations in a professional manner
  • Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Well developed report writing skills
  • Ability to interpret maps and legal descriptions
  • Sound knowledge of local Government bylaws, and associated Provincial and Federal statutes, including the Local Government Act and Community Charter
  • Ability to operate a networked personal computer and can operate the computer software programs utilized within the department
  • Ability to represent the City at Court hearings
  • Ability to deal in a confident and humane manner with wild or domestic animals

The successful applicant must be able to successfully clear an RCMP personal background check.

Salary & Benefits

The rate of pay for this position is $35.09 per hour, in accordance with the Collective Agreement with CUPE Local 2093
