Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, the Health & Safety Co-ordinator performs a strategic and hands-on role by providing guidance and technical support to Managers, Supervisors and Employees throughout the Corporation.

DUTIES:

  • Ensure Corporate compliance with provincial, federal and municipal occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, policies and procedures;
  • Conduct Corporate training and orientation of policies, programs and Health & Safety legislation;
  • Research, develop, implement and maintain municipal health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Provide technical expertise and support in the identification, measurement, and control of occupational health hazards and unsafe conditions for all areas of the City;
  • Provide guidance and support to staff with corporate health and safety matters;
  • Co-ordinate, facilitate, and participate in all Joint Health & Safety Committees meetings;
  • Perform various assessments relating to the Corporate Safety Program;
  • Liaise with various outside agencies including the Ministry of Labour, Public Services Health and Safety Association, Workplace Safety and Prevention Services and other municipalities;
  • Assist with Employee Wellness Committee;
  • Co-ordinate with outside training agencies;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • A Community College Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Human Resources or related discipline;
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation preferred;
  • A minimum of three (3) years experience;
  • Experience developing and delivering Health & Safety training
  • Thorough knowledge of legislation such as the OHSA, Canada Labour Code, Ministry of Health & Long Term Care Act etc.;
  • Effective organizational, research and analytical skills;
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and superior public speaking and presentation skills;
  • Superior knowledge of MS Office;
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment;
  • Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle;
  • Fluency in both official languages is preferred;
  • Current and clear Criminal Background Check required.
